I Wish You Were My Family  2018

I've been a collector of vintage photographs for several years, focusing on color '50's-90's candid family photos. Often purchased from people who no longer want to keep them, these morsels of time become my family, as I grow more and more distant with my own.

Superimposing images of my immigrant family adjusting to life in the states onto these, often white American families, reveal similar class struggles, but highlight the overarching theme of a person of colors desire to be assimilated.
